Links between boreal forest management, soil fungal communities and below‐ground carbon sequestration

چکیده

Forest management has a potential to alter below-ground carbon storage. However, the underlying mechanisms, and relative importance of input decomposition in regulation soil dynamics are poorly understood. We examined whether interactive effects forest fertilization thinning on stocks topsoil boreal forests were linked changes fungal community composition, biomass enzyme activities, long-term experiment distributed across 29 Pinus sylvestris along 1,300 km latitudinal transect Sweden. Nitrogen increased biomass, particularly towards north mainly by promoting root-associated Ascomycetes, but response was moderated thinning. Fungal correlated positively with organic topsoil. ectomycorrhizal Cortinarius species reduced abundance negatively stocks. Plausibly, after form mycelium combined loss decomposers within genus Cortinarius. These responses may mediate natural climate solution sequestration topsoil, effect also be undesired from biodiversity perspective. Termination of belowground C allocation by trees alters soil fungal and bacterial communities in a boreal forest.

The introduction of photosynthates through plant roots is a major source of carbon (C) for soil microbial biota and shapes the composition of fungal and bacterial communities in the rhizosphere. Although the importance of this process, especially to ectomycorrhizal fungi, has been known for some time, the extent to which plant belowground C allocation controls the composition of the wider soil ...

Spatial Patterns of Soil Respiration Links Above and Belowground Processes along a Boreal Aspen Fire Chronosequence

Fire in boreal ecosystems is known to affect CO2 efflux from forest soils, which is commonly termed soil respiration (Rs). However, there is limited information on how fire and recovery from this disturbance affects spatial variation in Rs. The main objective of this study was to quantify the spatial variability of Rs over the growing season in a boreal aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) fire c...
